{MALAYSIA} Visiting Muar

Our upcoming wedding will be held in Jeremy's hometown, Muar. It is a small town located in the state of Johor. It used to be a fishing town and is popular for its chinese food and a local delicacy called Otak-Otak.

Arriving and Getting Around Muar
There are no airports in Muar. The best way to get to Muar is by ground transportation. If you are headed to Muar from Kuala Lumpur, you should consider getting a bus from Pudu Raya. Good buses you can try are Transnational and Mayang Sari. Here's a good blog post about getting to Muar from airports via ground transportation.

Accommodations in Muar
There are several good hotels that you can stay in when in Muar. We recommend D99 (newer hotel compared to the rest) as well as Classic Hotel.

The bride, brides' friends and family will be staying at Classic Hotel.
Should you need accommodation here (highly recommended), please do contact us so we can help you reserve a room. You just need to check in and pay when you get there. It'll be either a room with 1 king bed or 2 single beds. RM130 per night. We recommend staying 2 nights (June 4th and June 5th) for those attending our wedding.

Things to do, Places to visit in Muar
We'd recommend visiting Tanjung Emas. Tanjung Emas is the town’s park, which is located at the estuary of Muar river. It is outlined by a picturesque esplanade overlooking the scenic river. The park, which is much visited during the weekends, also houses a 9-hole golf course. A 45 minute to one hour river cruise departing from this park is also available to offer tourists views of Muar town from the river.

The rest of the time should be spent trying the local delicacies. A popular place to try out many local delicacies would be the Bentayan Food Court. The Otak-otak sold there are quite delicious. Here's a blogpost about the otak otak at the Bentayan Food Court.

Yong Sheng Hall in Muar
Our wedding reception will be held on the 2nd floor of Yong Sheng Hall in Muar. It is located at Lot 1965, Batu 3 1/2, Mukim Jalan Bakri, 84000 Muar, Johor, Malaysia. The ground floor of this hall houses Muar's famous confectionery store. For those attending our wedding, there will be cabs from the hotel to this location. We will provide contact info for a local cab company as we get closer to our wedding day and we'll organize carpools if posible.
